Student Achievements

MELISSA HOOPER (MM ’14) recently played (substitute) Assistant Principal Oboe with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in their production of “Les Troyens” by Berlioz and 2nd Oboe on several performances of “La Rondine” by Puccini. Melissa will play (substitute) 2nd Oboe and English horn later this spring with the National Symphony Orchestra, and 2nd oboe with the Baltimore Symphony.

ANGELA PARK (BM ’13) Was one of four undergraduate students to be awarded the 2012 UT Regents’ Outstanding Student Award in Arts and Humanities for her performances with the Hill Country Reed Trio.

STEFANI IDE WILKINSON (BM ’07) has recently performed as substitute oboist with the San Francisco Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Stefani lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, trumpeter Micah Wilkinson and their beautiful baby daughter.

CHRISTINE MASSEY (MM ’10) is living and working in the Los Angeles area. She has recently performed as subtitute English hornist with the LA Phil and as substitute oboist with the San Diego Symphony.

After a nation-wide search, DAN SCHWARTZ (MM ’08) is now Assistant Professor of Oboe at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. Dan recently performed as English hornist with the National Arts Center Orchestra in Canada under the direction of Pinchas Zucherman (January, 2011).

KEVIN BERG (DMA ’12) won the position of utility oboist with the Austin Symphony. He was recently a finalist in the Seattle Symphony 2nd oboe audition and a semi-finalist in the St. Louis Symphony 2nd oboe audition. Kevin is an active performer and teacher in central Texas.

MARY KAUSEK (BM ’11) was accepted into the MM program at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she is studying with Frank Rosenwein. Mary was selected to participate in the 2012 Pacific Music Festival in Japan.

GRACE WOODWORTH (BM ’11) was accepted into the MM program at the Eastman School of Music where she is studying with Richard Killmer. Grace was awarded “Outstanding Senior Recital” for her degree recital at the Butler School of Music. In the summer of 2012 Grace was at Banff.

ANGELA PARK (BM ’13) was a finalist in the Coer d’lene Young Artist Competition held in Spokane, WA in January 2011.

JESSICA WARNER (MM ’10) has released a recording of Dirk-Michael Kirsch’s “Ganymed” for solo oboe, available on Amazon.com. She was been appointed instructor of oboe at Eastern Tennessee State University for the 2011-12 academic year, and is currently living in Boone, NC with her husband, trombonist Drew Leslie and their beautiful baby boy.

SERENA (ROWE) GRIFFIN (MM ’08) is currently living in Guadalajara Mexico with her husband and musician Adrian D. Griffin. She is the oboe professor at the University of Guadalajara and elementary music teacher at the American School Foundation of Guadalajara. In the summer of 2010 she performed as principal oboist with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria in Mexico City under Carlos Miguel Prieto as music director. She continues to perform as second oboist with the Corpus Christi Symphony and maintains an active chamber music schedule.

LINDSAY TAYLOR (BM ’08) was appointed oboist with the Xin Kong Qi Orchestra in Bei Jing, China for the 2008-09 season. She also toured Europe with the Bei Jing Symphony Orchestra in the spring of 2009. She is currently living in Kansas City.

JENNIFER BERNARD (MM ’07) is Oboe Instructor at Texas Lutheran University, Principal oboist with the Laredo Philharmonic, English hornist with the Victoria Symphony, and a frequent performer with the Austin and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestras.

AMY BURGUS (DMA ’07) is the principal oboist of the Round Rock Symphony, second oboist of both the Victoria Symphony and the Brazos Symphony, and has lately been seen on stage with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Corpus Christi Symphony, and the Temple Symphony as well as other regional orchestras. She maintains a busy teaching and performing schedule, including performances at the 2010 International Double Reed Society and the 2010 Louisiana Music Educators Association Conference. She was the Assistant Program Director for the 2005 IDRS Conference held in Austin.

SUSAN TOMKIEWICZ (DMA ’05)has been appointed Assistant Professor at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. In 2011 she hosted the Carolyn Hove English horn master classes at Columbus State University.

TENLY WILLIAMS (MM ’05) is Second oboist and English hornist with the Boulder Philharmonic, and Principal oboist with the Steamboat Springs Symphony Orchestra. She gave the world premiere of Joseph Landers’ “Aspects of Casseiopeia” for oboe and guitar at the 2008 IDRS Conference in Utah. In addition to her regular teaching and performance schedule, Tenly is serving as a sabbatical replacement for Dr. Gary Moody at Colorado State University for the fall semester of 2012.

CRYSTAL STOHR HALL (MM ’04) maintains an active teaching and performing schedule in Chicago, along with an on-line reed business (reedmonster.com). She was a faculty member at the Marrowstone Music Festival in Bellingham, Washington in the summer of 2008, and has performed with the Mid-Summer Music Festival in Wisconsin. ANDREW JACOBSON (BM ’04) completed his MM degree in oboe performance at Eastman, and is freelancing in the Washington, D.C. area. He recently performed as second oboist with the National Symphony Orchestra in a concert under the baton of Loren Maazel.

LEIGH ANN WOODARD (DMA in progress) is featured prominently on the song by Indian mega-star A.R. Rahmann, “Pray For Me, Brother,” and on a film score by the same composer.
